Break Things Down

Achieving any effective solution requires equal parts research, planning, and creativity.

For me having a systematic approach to arrive at solutions is a necessity; something must be both functional and visually engaging to attract users. In an over-saturated world that's always grabbing for attention, being just okay at either one of these is not good enough.

Discover

To start, determining the scope of the project is my first priority. Finding what's needed by asking questions and exploring ideas.

Define needs - To get a better understanding of what is required to achieve a successful project - or if a solution is required at all - its good to start with questions.
User Studies - By examining what users are looking for out of a potential product, i’m able to begin form concepts that will address their needs.
Research - Determining what established norms exist by seeking outcompetitors and other similar products helps give shape to what types ofsolutions to seek out for any given problem.

Plan

To start, determining the scope of the project is my first priority. Finding what's needed by asking questions and exploring ideas.

Site Map- Using the information gathered, I work to get a bird’s-eye view of what is needed; creating connections throughout the design.
User Flows - These are used to get into the details of the design; establishing the twists and turns that users will encounter within any given feature.
Prototype - By constructing low-fidelity wireframes we’re able to work through potential problems as they arrive, without spending time on detailing designs that won’t be used.

Create

With a solid plan & all the problems worked out, more definition is brought to the design through visual iteration and constraints.

Iterate - Ideate on the visual style by creating an increasing number of outcomes, which are then used as the starting point in subsequent iterations.
Style Guide - To maintain a consistent design across the project, constraints are created to give projects a cohesive visual aesthetic.
High-Fidelity assets - When a final design is achieved, the components are assembled following the guidelines set in the style guide.

About Me

Hey there! My name’s Robert Bailey, or also known online as Maydris. I’m a passionate digital media artist whose roots stem from a background in a variety of artistic and technical industries. I strive for constant improvement competing against myself to push my abilities; allowing me to create ever more impactful & meaningful designs to effect positive change in the way humans interact with the technology in their lives.

Proficiencies

Over the years, education has left me with a diverse – but complimentary - skillset. These skills have been honed over the years to make me a highly proficient problem-solver & designer.

Work & Education

I have a strong attention to detail gained through several years of schooling in both Digital Media Arts & Fine Arts, as well as over 5 years of working in various professional technical industries while working as a freelance designer producing content for graphic design, motion graphics, UX/UI design, and web Design. As well as having previous experience working with a variety of 3D modeling programs.

My Passions

Science & Technology

Science applied through engineering has been used to produce an incalculable improvement to the overall standard of living of the world.
The marvelous devices we create to tackle seemingly impossible tasks never fails to inspire & astound people all over the world - me included.
For all the good it has done, it can create trouble as well. To combat this, we must improve our relationships to our technologies and science. Making understanding & usability more accessible to an ever-wider range of users.

Life Long Learning

With the rise of video & audio education media on platforms like YouTube I've been able to embrace my love of learning, no longer restricted to limited methods of education.
Growing up as a person with dyslexia who struggled with learning and who has friends & family who struggle with physical disabilities, accessibility has always been a concern of mine.
I hope one day to impact the way people learn by creating high-quality user experiences that will help others succeed. I believe everyone is capable so long as they are given the tools & opportunities to succeed.

Tabletop RPG's

For me, tabletop role-playing games – like Dungeons & Dragons, among others - have acted as an infinite canvas on which to gather with friends & strangers, to imagine and create a narrative together.

Each story is always different and always has a unique voice from the various other players in the game; there’s nothing else quite like it for me.

Games

Board games, Card games & video games have been deeply impactful to my life. Sometimes yielding me lifelong friendships, transformative experiences and beloved stories I can revisit over & over again.

My take on things

When it comes to opinions, I've got plenty. Though, I'm never so certain that I know everything. Uncertainty is always a bit uncomfortable, but the world won't come to you, problems won't fixed themselves, and challenges won't be overcome if you can't or won't speak your mind.

There can be no solutions without accepting what you don't know, and working to discover the rest.
